The Hills Are Alive!

Friday, August 31st, 2007

View property in most communities is generally considered to be from up looking down, as in hills or bluffs above an ocean or city. Think Malibu, for instance. In fact, historically the house on the hill above any town or village has always been the king’s castle or the feudal lord’s compound or the bank president’s mansion or the like.

In the Coachella Valley the reverse has mostly been true. Our views mainly look up. Up at the gorgeous San Jacinto and Santa Rosa Mountains, up at the desert sunsets or the swaying Palm Trees or the Indian Canyons. Beautiful homes tend to have crystal clear views of natural vistas, other than city lights or street scenes.

Some of this is changing now, as more development is cautiously allowed in the lower hills. (more…)

The Jewel Of The Desert

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Many communities have chosen this slogan to describe their piece of Paradise over the years, not just in the Coachella Valley but in other southwestern states. I’m sure it won’t surprise you to learn that Las Vegas and Phoenix once claimed this moniker, now long forgotten to them as they seek loftier goals for their megapolisis’.

But our own La Quinta is at a place in their growth and history right now when Jewel of The Desert is not only an appropriate description, but could be rightfully crowned if such things were awarded. A magnificent example of careful level-headed environment-friendly and eye-pleasing development, nothing seems to rise above the endless gardens and fairways more than two stories high. This leaves the spectacular mountain vistas in clear view from nearly any vantage point in town. A progressive light-pollution program also keeps the night sky in healthy perspective.

The shopping corridor is well-centered, the street layout easy and functionable, the arts scene is lively (a world-famous art show yearly, for starters), the golf is world-class, the restaurants and nightlife top-notch. Add all of that to the fact that much of the area is recently developed, so the infrastructure is strong and the homes filled with amenities in demand. And! the commute is easy both to and from the major freeway. Hmm, Jewel might even seem an understatement.

A Palm Springs Real Estate Broker or Palm Springs Real Estate Agent can educate and guide you on all that La Quinta has to offer, and with the Coachella Valley Real Estate Market level right now, you might be surprised at what your dollar will buy. A true boomtown in every respect, La Quinta might just be the place for you.

It’s The Jewel of The Desert.

Buying a Home in Palm Springs

Palm Springs Real Estate

Buying a home is a milestone for many people. It usually signifies that you are able to take care of yourself and you are ready to take life as it comes. Many times buying a home also means that you received a raise, got a promotion, got married, or you may have a new baby on the way and just need the extra space. There is also a downside to purchasing a home, it can be very stressful. There are several things that you can do to minimize the amount of stress that comes with purchasing a home.

Many people do not have a choice on what city they want to live in because of the location of their jobs, but some people can choose where they want to live. Palm Springs, in Coachella Valley, is an excellent location for a young family or a couple that is looking for a place to retire to, but there are several things that you need to do (more…)

A Creative Consideration

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Just a couple of years ago I wouldn’t have thought I’d live to see the words “lease option” uttered again, at least not in regards to the Palm Springs Real Estate Market. But as I’ve said before, the only rule is there is no rule these days. And lease options are sprouting up all over the valley like mushrooms in a meadow after a thunderstorm.

If you’ve never considered an option perhaps this is the time to ask your Palm Springs Real Estate Broker if it might be right for you. Typically the scenario is that you invest a non-refundable sum of perhaps ten thousand dollars (more…)

Expand Your Horizons

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

It might surprise you to find out that, like any metro area, Palm Springs is merely one of many cities, which comprise the Greater Coachella Valley area. Perhaps you’re vaguely familiar with Rancho Mirage being “The City of Presidents” and you’ve certainly seen Tiger on TV playing the courses in La Quinta and you’ve heard of the world-famous El Paseo Drive in Palm Desert. But what really are the major differences in lifestyle and affordability in each of these and the other communities?

Well, aside from hitting the graph-friendly stat websites until you reach for the Excedrin, (more…)

Everyone’s Got An Opinion

Monday, August 20th, 2007

It seems as if I can’t go anywhere these days without hearing or reading somebody’s version of just when the Palm Springs Real Estate market is going to turn. On just one day last week I went from the New York Times to The Los Angeles Times to The Wall Street Journal and in the space of those .. oh .. 60 minutes and a head spin, I had read four (there were two large articles that day in the L.A. paper) supposedly expert opinions having the Riverside County market bottom out and recover anywhere from this October 2007 to the end of 2012 for cryin’ out loud.

I have a close friend from Italy, with an dear old-world Sicilian mother I lovingly call Nona, which is Italian for Grandmother. As much as I love her I usually take her earthy advice with a grain of salt. But there are two pieces of ancient wisdom that I have found to be more than true ever since she impaled them onto me as a youngster.

The first, and I think we can all agree on this, the best advice is, don’t take advice and (more…)

It’s 110 degrees! What will my kids do?

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

What will I do during the hot months? What will my kids do?

This is an oft-heard concern of those unfamiliar with living in the climate of the Coachella Valley, especially from spouses and family members of transferred employees of the many tourist and entertainment-industry companies that are located here.

While I don’t mean to minimize the importance of these concerns, the old adage is, for the most part, true. That is, that “it’s a dry heat.” I know I know, “so’s an oven” you might reply. But still. Clients from back east are often quick to tell me that a summer here beats the incessant humidity hands down.

During the past decade the Valley has grown and matured so significantly that it can now be counted as one of the most family friendly environments in Southern California. (more…)
