Abruptly rising from the floor of the desert and located east of Los Angeles are the majestic San Jacinto mountains. A short range running south by southeastward approximately 30 miles, these mountains are closely surrounded by the San Gorgonio Pass and the northern point of the Santa Rosa Mountains. Recognized as the back drop to the city of Palm Springs, they are not only beautiful to behold, but also necessary as a storage area for water of all the surrounding areas.

Giving those located nearby as well as visitors, a chance to engage in some outdoor activities offering recreational fun and the chance to meet fascinating travelers since the mountains attract tourists quite frequently. Some of the outdoor fun to be had includes mountain biking as an excellent way of finding your endurance level and just how tough you really are. Another option for exercise, fun, and sport is the trail hiking. Taking a trek through some of the most beautiful mountain ranges known to man, you may find yourself enthralled to the point of amazement and wonder at the beauty of the surrounding desert. Offering a respite from the often triple digit heat on the desert floor, this mountain range boasts the Mount San Jacinto State Park, and a division of the San Bernardino Mountains. The view from the mountains gives you a breathtaking and panoramic look at most of Palm Springs and the surrounding cities located in the Coachella Valley .

Also referred to as Avii Hanupach in Mojave, these mountains are the hub of activity of the surrounding area, whether you are searching for a temporary fun time, or a regular sporting activity. Health and fitness are exalted here and there are numerous ways to enjoy yourself. Not only is Palm Springs the historical popular location to frequent, but also the other cities with their smaller populations, and festivals that draw visitors from all over.

The San Jacinto Mountains have numerous times been used as the backdrop for film shoots and such. Directors have visited the San Jacinto Mountains and the surrounding areas for the sole purpose of filming them as background in movies. Since part of the eastern section is located in the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation, it brings attention to the San Jacinto Mountains State Park with it’s fern bordered meadows and the weathered ridge looking down upon all passing beneath. This park offers two separate camp sites and a chance to experience the beauty of mountain wilderness. Operating year round, the Palm Springs Arial Tramway offers a scenic ride to the mountain ridge where you can enjoy find dining and shopping.

As mountain ranges go, this happens to be one of the most spectacular and beautiful ranges to visit. Leaving nothing to the imagination, every viewing remains nearly unbelievable memory to hang onto dearly. Having now learned of one of the most famous mountain ranges in Coachella Valley, you can find your way over to the San Jacinto Mountains and enjoy a dinner at the top of the mountain, find outdoor activities to suit, or simply enjoy the view for the grandeur it encompasses.
